There is a plethora of both academic and athletic extra curricular activities and all students are encouraged to participate and do their best. Parents, too, are encouraged to help in all arenas of the school and participation is good but always could be better. The parent referring to the disorganized cross country team below should have volunteered to help the program and then they could have enjoyed all of the teams 1st place successes with the team. As for the parent referring to the 'rude' and 'to busy all the time' principal, I wholeheartily disagree. I have found the HMS principal extremely polite and engaging, and...busy -- coordinating the education of our kids, overseeing the teachers, para and secretarial staff, and integrating parents into this system that works very well!” Posted By: parent Quality Score: 1 2008-03-17 “This school is misleading the principal is rude snd to busy all the time the assistant principal is worse. My son was in the special ed class and all they did was watch movies!! mean everyday! His teacher was always out sick. The paras are old with hearing aides so the kids get away with everything! his exceptional classroom has the worst supervision and lack of structure. No wonder they shut down so many Denver public schools! You can come to the school in 6th grade and not know how to play an instrument at all, and learn how to play in a few weeks! Almost everyone is in one of the many offered extracurricular activities such as AVID, soccer, basket ball, volleyball, Art club etc. there is a decent level of parental involvement. If the students are out of line they are always 'delt' with very calmly, but still in an effective manner. The teachers are all very kind and caring along with all of the staff. The band teacher is one of the best in the Denver Public School district and the students are in a warm and caring environment.”
